National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) Sindh has announced Expression of Interest (EoI) for “Setting up Small Business under PAIDAR Microgrants” for district Sujawal under Poverty Alleviation and Inclusive Development Across Rural Sindh (PAIDAR) progarmme with last date of November 6, 2024.
PAIDAR programme is funded by the European Union (EU) and being implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Pakistan in Sindh through different implementing partners in five districts including Sujawal (NRSP) to contribute to the implementation of Sindh government’s “Poverty Reduction Strategy” (PRS) and reduce poverty through business, job creation in the local market.

To reach out prospect potential grantees, NRSP-PAIDAR’s Nazar Joyo (Team Lead) along with his team (grant officers) conducted meeting with fisherman communities at Kalkachhani hub of five (5) village on the sea cost in Taluko Jati, some 70 kilometers away from Sujawal district headquarter. Around 200 boats (middle level) and 15 big ships sails into deep sea for fishing.
Some people from these communities already approached NRSP Sujawal office after seeing the advertisement in newspaper. They obtained grant application forms. After the awareness session regarding NRSP-PAIDAR Microgrants different business ideas come up as under. Undoubtedly, whole the coastal belt is identical for folk wisdom, storytelling, communal relationships, and business trades, some historical accounts also reveal that. The ideas received by NRSP were;

1. One man already occupies small mechanic shop for repairing & maintenance of engines of boats and bikes etc. He and his brother are mechanic. They seek to apply for grant for expanding current business to motorcycle/Qingqi loader and boat engine’s spare parts and repair shop.
2. 5-Members per cluster from five (five) different villages said that they are working on ships and boats and going to deep sea for fish hunting on share basis and go eight (8) to 15 days in deep sea and earn PKR 1,000 to 1,200 per day if they hunt good yield of quality fish. “If we can get support from NRSP-PAIDAR, then we shall purchase middle level ship/Boat on which 8-10 people go for hunting for 8-10 days and we may earn more than double money as compare today’s wedges and 8 families will be involved on one boat in this business.”
3. One Young Man who is also trader of crabs said that he is trading raw crabs in the market of Karachi and now he wants to make the pond in a new scientific way and raw crabs are treated 15-20 days through the boxing system and earn more money in national and then international market and increase employment as well.

4. One individual said that “I am doing trade in crabs, 40 people sell me crabs and I am selling these crabs in local market of Jati now I want to expand my business in big market in Karachi.”
5. One other fisherman opined that he and his family members have to go on foot and hunt crabs. They are planning if they have a small boat to go further to the sea then they can expand their business. Four (4) women and four (4) men will be involved in hunting and they may expand business and make it sustainable as well.
6. A young man from fishing community wished to have grant under NRSP-PAIDAR to promote the seafood (cooked) in local market as well other cities including Karachi.
