WHO declares third wave of COVID-19 after widespread of Delta variant

Lahore, 15th July: The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the world may have entered the early stages of the third wave of coronavirus pandemic.  WHO declares that the fast-spreading Delta variant has caused a spike in coronavirus cases across the world, hence wiping out the progress made through vaccines. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that after the emergence of the Delta variant in 111 countries, the global number of infections has risen for four straight weeks. Similarly, the death rate has also risen after 10 straight weeks of decline. WHO Director-General addressed the WHO’s Emergency Committee on COVID-19 and said the Delta variant is increasing by growing social mixing and inconsistent use of public health measures. According to WHO, more than four million people have died due to COVID-19 globally and that the Delta variant has become the dominant strain worldwide. As per the data collected on Wednesday, Russia reported a record-high number of 786 coronavirus cases, while new infections are at a six-month high in the UK.
