15 members of European Parliament meet governor Punjab

Lahore: More than 15 members of the European Parliament met Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar including Chairperson of the European Parliament Human Rights Committee, Maria Arena and a member of the European Parliament’s Defense and Security Foreign Affairs Committee, Javier Nart.

Members of European parliament assured full cooperation to Pakistan for extension of Gsp Plus status.
According to the details, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar during his visit to Europe on Thursday in Brussels, met French Member of Parliament for France Herve Juvin, Virginie Joron, Member of European Parliament from Greece Emmanouil Fragkos, Member of European Parliament from France Bernard Guetta, Member of European Parliament from Spain. Jordi Sole with members of the European Parliament from Poland and other countries, on the mission for extension of GSP Plus status, the Afghan peace process, the war on terror and the Kashmir issue. Members of parliament assured Pakistan of their full support for the extension of GSP Plus status.
Talking to the media after the meetings, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that Pakistan’s efforts have been successful and majority of European Parliament members have become supporters of Pakistan on the issue of GSP Plus status. He said regional security and peace is Pakistan’s top priority, adding that the visit to the European Parliament has been a success for Pakistan in every way.
Replying to a question on Afghanistan, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that European Parliamentarians have expressed interest in the situation in Afghanistan in their meetings. European Parliamentarians have agreed that humanitarian aid for Afghanistan should be unconditional. Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that unless the international community talks to the Taliban, the problem will not be solved. He said that wars are not a solution to the problem, in fact they worsen it. Talking about Gsp Plus issue, he said that the conventions that are being imposed on us will benefit the people, likewise, if it is a matter of human rights, it will also benefit us.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that the Afghan government does not have the money to pay the salaries of government employees, adding that hunger will lead to violence and ultimately regional instability. Whatever decision is taken with regards to Afghanistan will be made in consultation with the European Union and the countries of the region. He said that Pakistan wants peace in the region and has been at the forefront in this regard. Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that Pakistan has set up National Commission on Women’s Status, National Commission on Child Rights, and National Commission on Human Rights. One hundred percent provision of basic rights to all including women and minorities is being ensured in Pakistan and in the economic field too. Pakistan is moving forward successfully, he added.
