2 Dead in Dutch city shootings; Suspect arrested in Rotterdam

Rotterdam police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with two fatal shooting incidents that occurred on Thursday in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. According to local authorities, two individuals lost their lives, and another sustained serious injuries during these incidents.
The suspect was apprehended “under the helipad” at Erasmus University’s Medical Center while in possession of a handgun. Reports indicate that he was a student affiliated with Erasmus University, where the medical center is located.
Earlier in the day, authorities received multiple reports of shootings around 2:25 p.m. local time, which took place both inside a house and a classroom within the vicinity of the Erasmus University Medical Center.
Erasmus University Medical Center advised people to refrain from visiting the facility due to “various incidents” in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Initial police posts on X described the suspect as wearing “combat-style” attire, tall, with black hair, and carrying a backpack. The motive behind the shootings remains unknown.
Authorities are currently investigating the suspect’s potential role and involvement in the shooting incidents. Police have not indicated the presence of a second shooter. The Erasmus medical center is renowned as one of Europe’s leading university hospitals.
