India: A complete blackout rehearsal was conducted on Sunday at the Indian Army’s cantonment in Punjab’s Ferozepur for half an hour in view of the “prevailing war threats”, amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, officials said.

As part of the drill, total darkness was maintained by switching off all visible lights from 9 pm for 30 minutes. Authorities directed residents that no inverter or generator lights are visible outside their homes during this period.

A letter from the cantonment authorities to the Deputy Commissioner in Ferozepur mentioned that the rehearsal is intended to ensure preparedness and effectiveness in implementing blackout procedures amid “prevailing war threats”.

The cantonment authorities made a loudspeaker announcement ahead of the drill, informing residents about the measures involved in the blackout drill.

The mock drill comes as India sharpens its response to the April 22 terrorist attack.

There has been speculation about the possibility of a military strike against Pakistan, although no official statement has been made yet.
