34 terrorists arrested from Punjab, 11 from Lahore
LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has foiled a major terror plot in the province by arresting thirty-four terrorists belonging to banned organizations during operations across parts of Punjab in November.
The CTD has arrested eleven terrorists from organizations including Fitna-ul-Khawarij in Lahore and recovered maps of important buildings from their possession. According to the spokesperson, CTD Punjab conducted 242 intelligence-based operations in districts across the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism. In the process they brought in 243 suspects for questioning and arrested 34 for carrying arms, explosives and other prohibited material.

The terrorists namely Zubair, Aslam, Abubakar, Fida Hussain, Fahad, Saifullah, Abdullah, Mahmud-ul-Hassan, Nafees, Israr, Haji Shah, Kashif, Qasim, Sabir, Ramzan, Junaid, Imran, and Irfan have been taken into CTD custody. The spokesperson further clarified that the terrorists have affiliations with Fitna-ul-Khawarij, ISIS and other organizations.
He said that the terrorists were arrested as a result of intelligence-based operations across Bhakkar, Lahore, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Narowal, Attock, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, respectively. Explosives estimated at 6,815 grams, 28 detonators, safety fuse wire approximately 89 feet long, 4 IED bombs, 3 prima card feet, pistols with bullets in them, pamphlets of banned organizations, 59 magazines, and nearly PKR 57,500/- of cash have been recovered form their possession.

The spokesperson said that the terrorists planned to target a government building in Lahore, adding that twenty-eight cases have been registered against them while further investigation is being carried out against the arrested.
According to the spokesperson, 7,536 combing operations were conducted through cooperation between local police and the security agencies, during which 235,630 people were checked, 637 suspects were arrested, 466 FIRs were registered and 340 recoveries were made.
