36 Flamingos Found Dead In Mumbai, Hit By Incoming Emirates Flight
India: Some 36 flamingos were found dead in Mumbai’s suburbs of Ghatkopar yesterday, the carcasses scattered in various areas.
The birds were reportedly hit by an incoming Emirates aircraft, which was also damaged.
The aircraft collided with the flock moments before its landing at the Mumbai airport, a Times of India report said.
The flight EK-508, carrying over 300 passengers, later made a safe landing at around 9.15 pm, sources said.
The return flight – bound for Dubai – was cancelled late last evening, showed the plane tracking website Flightradar24 that displays real-time commercial flight tracking information on a map.
The Forest Department officials recovered the mutilated remains of the birds after residents alerted a wildlife group about dead birds in Ghatkopar area.
Officials found the area littered with bird carcass. Broken pieces of wings, claws and beaks were strewn all over.
