5 killed, 30 injured in Peshawar blast

Mar 4, 2022: According to a report by Geo News, police and rescue officials said that a powerful blast inside a mosque in Peshawar’s Kocha Risaldar area during Friday prayers killed five people and injured 30 others.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene, and the injured were being treated at the city’s Lady Reading Hospital. A hospital spokesman said the condition of the 10 injured was critical.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast took place during prayers. No details have been released about the nature of the blast.

“We are in a state of emergency and the injured are being shifted to the hospital. We are investigating the nature of the blast but it seemed to a suicide attack,” police officer Mohammad Sajjad Khan told Reuters.

In a statement to the media, Advisor to KP Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif confirmed that the explosion took place during Friday prayers.

“Reportedly the terrorists first tried to enter the mosque where they exchanged fire with the police,” said Barrister Saif.

He said that a terrorist managed to enter the mosque and carried out the attack.
