It has been more than 90 hours since an Indian Border Security Force (BSF) constable was detained by Pakistan Rangers after crossing the International Border near Ferozepur, Punjab. Despite three rounds of flag meetings between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers, the soldier has not been released yet.

The constable has been identified as Purnam Kumar Shaw, a member of the BSF’s 182nd Battalion. On Wednesday, Shaw was on duty near the border fence when he inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory.

He was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time. According to Indian officials, Shaw moved ahead towards a shaded area to rest, during which he crossed the border and was detained by Pakistan Rangers.

The BSF immediately initiated efforts to secure his release. Three flag meetings were held with Pakistan Rangers to seek his return, but Pakistan has so far refused to hand him over, stating they have no information about his whereabouts. Following the detention, the BSF has placed all units deployed along the India-Pakistan border on heightened alert.

Efforts to bring back the constable have been intensified. The BSF has requested another field commander-level flag meeting with the Pakistan Rangers. Officials said the meeting is expected to take place soon.
