Moscow, 7th October: Russia has test-launched its Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile and successfully hit a target in the Barents Sea.
According to Reuters, a senior commander told Vladimir Putin on the Russian leader’s 68th birthday on Wednesday that they have launched their Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile.
Via a video link Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian Army reported the news to Putin. He explained that the Admiral Gorshkov vessel was in the White Sea located in northern Russia.
Putin wanted to boost the military and defense of Russia and he had previously talked about hypersonic missiles in 2018, after hearing about the successful test run he was very pleased and expressed his gratitude. “This is a big event not only for the life of the armed forces but also for all of Russia, for the whole country,” Putin told Gerasimov.
Gerasimov said the missile hit its target at a distance of 450 kilometers (280 miles) in four and a half minutes after reaching hypersonic speeds of more than Mach 8.
It is also assumed that Russia first did a test launch in January this year as well.
He explained that more tests will be done and once the weapon is ready for use he will equip Russian surface weapons and submarines with it.
