ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to foreign ministry and interior ministry and sought reply from them on a petition filed against non release of 4 Indian citizens on completion of their sentence term.
These Indian citizens were convicted and sentenced by military courts on espionage charges.
The petition came up for hearing before IHC bench led by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah Wednesday.
Counsel for Indian High Commission told the court that the military courts had awarded punishment on the Indian citizens under the charges of espionage. They are not being released even after completion of their jail term. Keeping under detention after completion of their sentence is breach of human rights.
The Indian prisoners are kept in jails at Karachi and Lahore.
The court while issuing notices to foreign ministry and interior ministry have summoned reply from them.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned till October 28.
