According to media reports, the Kisan movement continues across the country, including the states of Punjab and Haryana. After talks with the government failed, farmers’ protests spread across the country.

A spokesman for the Indian Farmers’ Union said farmers had called for a nationwide peaceful shutdown today. The strike will continue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Essential services, especially ambulance service and marriage ceremonies will not be affected by the protests. The India shutdown means that farmers do not support any government policy. Harinder Singh Lakhwal, secretary general of the farmers’ union, said members of the unions would occupy national highways and toll plazas during the strike.

Some unions of Indian banks have decided to protest by wearing black belts in solidarity with the farmers. However, this will not affect banking services. Following the announcement of support for farmers by the transport unions, truck service between different states will be severely affected. According to the transport unions, they will present a memorandum to the deputy collectors and commissioners during the peaceful protest, demanding a peaceful solution to the problems of the farmers.

On the other hand, Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has leveled serious allegations against the Delhi Police. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has tweeted that the BJP’s Delhi Police has placed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under house arrest since he joined the farmers’ movement. No one is allowed to enter his residence. Kejriwal had visited the Sanghu border yesterday and supported the farmers’ movement.

Apart from Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, Aam Aadmi Party, TRS, RJD, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi Party, JMM and INLD, nearly twenty parties have declared support and said they are with the farmers’ ‘Bharat Bandh’ movement. In addition to political parties, many organizations and institutions have announced their support for the movement.

The transporters’ organization AIMTC (All India Motor Transport Congress) on Tuesday announced a nationwide transport shutdown, raising its voice in support of farmers from day one.

Regarding the farmers’ movement Bharat Bandh, the local police and administration have made all preparations so that the people do not have any problem in getting around. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, Sanghu, Ochandi, Piao Manyari, Mangesh, Tekri and Jharoda borders (towards Haryana) are closed. National Highway 44 has been closed on both sides. Therefore, travelers are advised to take an alternative route to Lampur, Safiabad and Saboli border. People heading to Noida have been asked to leave DND as the Noida Link Road on the Chilla border has also been closed to traffic. The Ghazipur border on National Highway 24 has also been closed to traffic from Ghaziabad to Delhi.
