India: At least four people were injured in a cylinder blast that took place at a storage godown in Mumbai’s Versova Andheri (W) today. The injured have been shifted to hospital. According to the BMC Disaster Control, the blaze was reported around 9.45 a.m. in the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) gas cylinder storage depot located on Yari Road near the Anjuman School.
Even as panic gripped the locality, Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed 16 fire-tenders to battle the massive blaze, the cause of which is not known. The conflagration was brought under control in a couple of hours, said an official.
“The fire broke out due to cylinder blast,” the officials at the spot informed.
“The injured has been rushed to Cooper Hospital for treatment,” they added. The injured have been identified as Rakesh Kadu, Laxman Kumvat, Manjit Khan and Mukesh Kumvat.
