Islamabad United Defeats Multan Sultans in Engaging Encounter

Karachi, February 21, 2021: In the third match of HBLPSL held in Karachi, Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by three wickets after an interesting contest. Islamabad United all-rounder Louis Gregory was declared the best player of the match. His unbeaten innings of 49 runs and 2 wickets played an important role in the victory of Islamabad United.

Islamabad United started the innings with a chase of 151 runs when their first wicket fell on a total score of 30 when Phil Salt scored 13 runs and was bowled by Mohammad Omar. Captain Shadab Khan scored five runs and fell victim to Carlos Braithwaite. Alex Hales played an innings of 29 runs with the help of two fours and two sixes, he was bowled by Shahid Afridi. Asif Ali was also dismissed by Shahid Afridi on an individual score of 9. Faheem Ashraf’s innings was also limited to 22 runs with the help of two fours and a six. He was led to the pavilion by Carlos Braithwaite.

With Islam United taking six wickets for a total of 74, the victory of Multan Sultans seemed imminent but all-rounder Louis Gregory’s brilliant innings turned the match around. He played an unbeaten 49-run innings with the help of six fours and a six to lead the team to victory. Carlos Braithwaite and Shahid Afridi of Multan Sultans got two wickets each.

Earlier, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first. Apart from captain Mohammad Rizwan, none of the Multan Sultans batsmen could stay on the crease for long. Opener Chris Lane hit Faheem Ashraf’s ball in the second over of the match. Out Multan Sultans’ second wicket fell on a total score of 52 when James Owens was dismissed for 16 by English bowler Lewis Gregory.

However, on the other hand, the captain of Multan Sultans and in-form batsman Mohammad Rizwan kept on increasing the runs from the other end. He played a brilliant innings of 71 off 53 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. On a total score of 87, Riley Russo scored 25 runs with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes and got out on the ball of Shadab Khan. Carlos Braithwaite played an innings of 22 not out. Multan Sultans scored 150 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated base overs.

Muhammad Wasim Jr., who made his debut for Islamabad United, guided three players to the pavilion. Louis Gregory took two wickets.
