Islamabad: (February 22, 2021): A high level meeting of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Justice Javed Iqbal at the NAB headquarters.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman NAB, Prosecutor General NAB, DG Operations NAB, DG NAB Rawalpindi and other senior officers. It was informed in the meeting that a Joint Investigation Team (CIT) comprising of experienced and hardworking officers was constituted to investigate the alleged sugar subsidy scandal in a transparent, impartial, independent, merit and lawful manner. The meeting reviewed the investigation into the alleged sugar subsidy scandal and reviewed the progress so far.

The meeting was informed that the alleged sugar subsidy scandal is being investigated by a Joint Investigation Team (CIT) comprising two investigative officers, a financial expert, a legal consultant, an expert with experience in sugar industry matters, a forensic expert and a case. Apart from the officer / additional director and the concerned director, the investigation is being supervised by DG NAB Rawalpindi.

Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal expressed satisfaction over the report of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in connection with the investigation into the alleged sugar subsidy scandal and directed the JIT to conduct a transparent, impartial investigation.

He said the investigation should  be completed on merit and professional basis and in this regard to get the details of Chinese subsidy from all the provinces besides getting financial and audit reports of companies related to SECP and other relevant institutions to get to the bottom of the matter Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal directed that in the investigation of the alleged sugar subsidy scandal, all concerned persons and departments should be given full opportunity to clean up their act in accordance with the law.

According to the report, action will be taken against those who were allegedly illegally given not only Chinese subsidy but also caused billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
