Indian Police question the head of Amazon Prime over Tandav
New Delhi, 24th February: Indian police questions a top executive from the Amazon over their prime series ‘Tandav’.
Baaghi TV: In the northern state of Uttar Pradesh the Indian police questioned a top Amazon executive for nearly four hours on Tuesday.
According to reports, the executive was questioned over the allegations that one of its political dramas on Prime Video had hurt religious sentiments, thus causing public anger.
‘Tandav’ which is a political drama starring top Bollywood actors like Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia, has faced police complaints and court cases in several states alleging that the show had depicted Hindu gods and goddesses in a demeaning manner.
On Tuesday the police questioned the Indian head of Amazon of original content for its Prime streaming service, Aparna Purohit, over same allegations at a police station on Tuesday in Utter Pradesh.
Amazon declined to comment, and Purohit did not take questions from reporters outside the police station.
A state police officer informed Reuters that Purohit had told police that an apology had been issued and scenes had been edited out after its release in January.
