Indian congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has constantly accused the modi government of ceding Indian territory to China, on Saturday reiterated the attack and said China knows that Modi will compromise the country’s interests. Rahul Gandhi also alleged that democracy in India is “dead”.

Speaking at VOC College in Thoothukudi of Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi said, “China knows that (our) PM will compromise India’s interests.”

Rahul Gandhi also spoke at length about democracy in India and asserted that in the country, “it is dead”. Rahul Gandhi said there has been a systematic attack on elected institutions and the free press over the past six years. He then went on to blame the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for it.

“Democracy doesn’t die with a bang, it dies slowly. Institutions like Parliament, judiciary, press, etc hold the nation together. A nation is a balance between its institutions. If that balance is destroyed, then the nation is destroyed. RSS has penetrated into them,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Rahul Gandhi said, “It (RSS) has disturbed and destroyed the institutional balance in the country. India is a union of states. When you destroy the institutions, you also destroy the negotiations of the states. The power balance is destroyed. This is what we are facing.”
