The Indian Election Commission issued a notice to BJP Nandigram candidate Suvendu Adhikari for the “mini-Pakistan” comment he made during his election campaign nine days ago. The poll panel asked him to reply in 24 hours.
Adhikari on March 29 told Nandigram’s voters not to vote for Trinamool Congress candidate and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, warning them that the state would then become a “mini-Pakistan”.
The notice to Adhikari came a day after TMC accused the poll panel of bias following its notice to Banerjee for her “minority votes” comment in Tarakeswar. “Gentlemen, at least keep up the farce of impartiality!” TMC MP Mahua Moitra tweeted on Wednesday after the notice to her party chief. “What about the Trinamool complaints of video evidence of a BJP candidate distributing cash and cash coupons distributed to attend a BJP meeting and vote?” she had asked.
