June 29, 2021: Following the normalization of relations between the two countries in September, Israel’s top diplomat, Yar Lapid, began the Israeli minister’s first official visit to the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

Lapid tweeted a picture of himself from inside the plane, entitled: “Leaving for a historic visit to the United Arab Emirates.” Israeli ministers have visited Gulf countries before, but Lipid is the most senior Israeli to make the trip and the first to make an official trip. Since the administration of then-President Donald Trump broke the usual agreement with the UAE, Israel has signed agreements with the UAE ranging from deals to aviation and financial services.

During his visit, Lapid will inaugurate the Israeli Embassy in Abu Dhabi as well as the General of the Israeli Consulate in Dubai.

“The Israeli delegation will land late morning at Abu Dhabi, and will be received by the minister of economic affairs at the foreign ministry,” the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

According to Israeli officials, in March, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned official visit to Jordan was canceled due to a “dispute” over the use of its airspace. Jewish nationalist Naphtali Bennett, a Jewish nationalist working with Lipid, has postponed his visit to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in February over the travel ban on coronavirus

The Palestinians have condemned the usual agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan, as they are breaking the Arab League’s years-long policy of maintaining relations with Israel.

The normalisation accords between Israel and the UAE, as well as Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan, have been condemned by the Palestinians as they break with years of Arab League policy which has held that there should be no relations with Israel until it makes peace with the Palestinians.
