Lahore, 30th June: Seven cities in Australia are now in lockdown after fears of the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.
According to reports, authorities have put seven Australian cities after they scramble to prevent the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant.
On Wednesday the officials reported a slight rise in coronavirus cases to more than 200 cases.
Nearly half the population, more than 12 million people are under stay-at-home orders in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Darwin, Townsville and the Gold Coast.
On Wednesday, the town of Alice Springs went under a lockdown after cases emerged in South Australia.
Authorities fear that the virus could now spread to nearby Aboriginal communities which are already vulnerable.
Leaders across the country are worried as new cases have emerged. They have urged faster vaccinations as just 5% of the population is fully vaccinated.
It is to be noted that the total number of coronavirus cases in Australia so far was 39.
It is pertinent to mention here that for the past year Australia had prevented wider COVID-19 transmission through stringent measures which included closed borders, hotel quarantine and aggressive contact tracing systems.
