July 9, 2021: A massive fire at a factory in Bangladesh has killed at least three people, injured 20 others and left several others trapped, officials said on Friday.

The cause of the fire, which started from the ground floor of a multi-storey building of a juice factory in Narainganj, 20 km (12 miles) from Dhaka, on Thursday night, was not immediately known. “It is not clear how many workers are trapped. We are gathering information,” Narayanganj district administrator Mustain Billia told Reuters from the scene.

He added that two people died on the spot and in a third hospital, 20 people were injured. Shah Alam, a fire service official, said all the men were injured when they jumped from the second floor and third floor of the building. Such accidents in factories, many of which operate illegally and without proper fire safety measures, are common in Bangladesh.
