Government decides to continue ban on TLP
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has rejected a summary sent to it regarding the lifting of a ban on banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
According to reports, a meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in which a report was presented regarding the ban on banned TLP.
Talking to media after the federal cabinet meeting, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the federal cabinet was told that the committee had come to the conclusion that the decision to ban was based on merit and facts, accusing the TLP of martyring and torturing police personnel.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the cabinet agreed on the committee report and decided to maintain the ban on the banned TLP. Now, steps will be taken by the Ministry of Law and the Attorney General to remove the symbol of the organization.
It may be recalled that the federal cabinet had approved the formation of a committee on the request of the banned TLP for review. The committee was constituted by the Interior Ministry, which included three senior officers.
It may be recalled that the Interior Ministry had issued a notification declaring Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan null and void. After the approval of the Federal Cabinet, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan was declared null and void under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
Later, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA) added Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan (TLP) to the list of banned organizations. The TLP was ranked 79th on the list.
NICTA had banned the banned Tehreek-e-Libek Pakistan from providing funds, charities and aid, saying that giving support to the TLP would be tantamount to financing terrorists.
