Addressing the ceremony, Pakistani-American Zahid Qureshi said that Pakistani youth should be a part of American bureaucracy and government services. Pakistani Judge Zahid Qureshi said that his appointment as the first Pakistani Federal Judge was due to the tireless efforts of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee. He said that one day Pakistani American judges will also be appointed in the US Supreme Court.

Zahid Qureshi, the first Pakistani-American to be appointed US federal judge, said it was a “frightening moment” for him. “It’s also a moment of pride when you are recognized by your community,” he said. Consul General Ayesha Ali, who presided over the ceremony, gave a warm welcome to Judge Qureshi at Pakistan House and said that his rise to the Federal Bench was a “historic moment” for the Pakistani-American community that was coming on its own. The Consul General also welcomed Zahid Qureshi’s mother, Shahida Qureshi, at Monday’s event.

Qureshi, 46, was among 11 judicial nominees nominated by President Joe Biden in March. Asad Chaudhry and Dr. Mehboob Alam – gave him a warm welcome.

The 83-16 Senate votes in favor of Qureshi were two-sided, with 34 Republicans crossing the party line and joining all Democrats in the vote to ratify them. The Consul General said in his remarks, “Judge Zahid Qureshi, along with several other appointments of Pakistani-Americans by the Biden administration, including Lena Khan, as head of the Federal Trade Commission. The Pakistani-American community is strong and visible, the relationship between the two countries is strong. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan considers Pakistanis abroad and Pakistanis as Pakistan’s assets and prefers to provide public services to them through consulates and embassies around the world.

He added that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s recent visit to New York and his interactions with the community in various formats and also with professionals and youth is a testament to the government’s policy to ensure that Diora’s opinion is heard and acted upon.
