Aug 10, 2021: New Zealand (NZ) captain Kayne Williamson and other senior players have been ruled out of the tour of Pakistan and Bangladesh as the Black Caps’ Elite prepare for the upcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

New Zealand have just confirmed their line-up for the World Cup and are training hard to prepare for the tournament. In addition to the series against Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Black Caps also have a Test match series in India for which the squad is yet to be announced next month.

New Zealand Cricket CEO David White said that changing times required the team to evolve strategies.

“The need to protect the well-being of our players and support staff is very real now, and we’ve been careful to handle their workload in this (this year’s) big game program,” White said.

New Zealand players will be allowed to rejoin the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) when it resumes in September.

“It’s a pragmatic approach. We’ve always tried to be realistic about the IPL and this is a one-off caused by a unique set of circumstances,” White said.

Williamson will be replaced by Tom Latham in the series against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Ross Taylor will also be at home to prepare for New Zealand’s Test series against India.
