Dec 21, 2021: According to an Iranian news agency affiliated with the country’s top security agency, a military commander said Iran would give”crushing” response to any Israeli attack.

“If Israel carries out attacks against Iran, our armed forces will immediately attack all centres, bases, routes, and spaces used to carry out the aggression,” Gholamali Rashid said during a military manoeuvre.

In the past, Iran has accused Israel of several attacks on facilities linked to its nuclear programme and killing its nuclear scientists over the past years. Israel has neither denied nor confirmed the allegations.

Israel has long threatened military action against its arch-enemy, Iran, if diplomacy prevents it from acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic says its nuclear ambitions are peaceful. Indirect talks between Iran and the United States to restore the nuclear deal have made little progress since it resumed for the first time since the election of hardline Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi last June. Talks are expected to resume this year, with some officials citing December 27 as a temporary date.
