Lahore: The Dairy and Cattle Farm Association (DCFA), Pakistan has said that Lumpy Skin Disease has entered Pakistan and there should strict ban on animals leaving Karachi as the virus is spreading in the city.

According to the details, a vaccine called Lumpy Vax has also been demanded for healthy animals within 50 km outside the affected area.

The association says newly purchased animals should be tied separately for 15 days until it is clear that they do not have the Lumpy Skin Disease virus.
This skin-scarring virus spreads from infected animal saliva and bee stings to sick animals to healthy animals.

The Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated by illnesses of up to 50% and deaths by up to 2%, it said adding that slaughtering infected animals is not a good practice because the virus is also present in mosquito stable fly.

Lumpy Skin Disease.
It has been said that the disease has entered Pakistan. There are infected cattle in most of the enclosures of buffalo and super highway cattle colonies. All farmers should work very carefully.  There is no legally registered medicine for this disease in Pakistan so far.
It was said that in Zambia in 1929, people in Zambia thought that the stains on the skins of their animals were contaminated with food.  The disease was found in Zimbabwe and Africa in 1945 and 1943. The disease lasted for 2 years in the whole of Africa imposing huge economic losses as eight million animals were affected.

The disease spread to Kenya in 1957, Lumpy skin disease to Sudan in 1972, and Egypt in 1988.
When the disease spread in the summer season in Egypt, people started vaccinating and banning the movement of animals from one place to another.
The disease hit Israel in 1989, but they slaughtered all the sick animals.

The disease has spread to Europe in 2019, with some cases of the disease being seen in Pakistan.

Symptoms of the disease: high fever, runny eyes, difficulty walking and skin rashes and rashes.

Cause of the disease: The disease is caused by a virus called Lumpy skin disease virus which belongs to the family of Goat Pox virus.

When and how the disease spreads: The disease can occur in any season, but in summer it is very common.

Why is the disease more prevalent in summer?
It is more common in summer because the summer dog Stable Fly transmits the disease from a sick animal to a healthy animal.  The disease is also spread by saliva in the mouth.

Treatment: There is no cure for this disease.

Control: Separate the sick animal and apply antibiotics.  Keep cleaning the shed.  And vaccinate your animals by telling other people 50 kilometers outside.

Vaccine: A vaccine to control the disease in which the virus is transmitted 50 times through calf kidney and 20 times through chicken embryo.

Note: Some cases of this disease came in Afghanistan last year while this year the disease has also been seen in Pakistan.
