WHO warns rising COVID cases in Asia are 'just tip of the iceberg'

Mar 6, 2022: The World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday congratulated Pakistan on vaccinating 100 million people against COVID-19.

The WHO wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to Pakistan. The WHO commends the Government of Pakistan for fully vaccinating more than 100 million people against the COVID-19 virus.”

The tweet said, “This indicates the tremendous efforts made by the government of Pakistan to ensure that everyone across the country has access to the COVID-19 vaccine.”

Earlier in the day, Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for National Health Services, also announced the news on microblogging platform. “100 million Pakistanis have been vaccinated against COVID-19,” he wrote.

According to data released by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) on Sunday morning, the COVID-19 positivity rate in Pakistan fell to 2% on March 6, the lowest level in the last two months. The last time the positive ratio fell to this low was on January 5 when the country reported a positive rate of 1.8%.

The latest statistics show that only 755 new cases of Corona virus were registered in Pakistan, bringing the total number of cases to 1,514,258.

Meanwhile, the country’s daily COVID-19 death toll fell below 10 once again as only seven people succumbed to the virus overnight, pushing the total number of deaths to 30,265.

Moreover, the active case count after the recent deaths and 886 recoveries further diminished to 29,611.
