Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” enters UK’s top 10 hits

LONDON: Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue scores her first top 10 hit in years with “Padam Padam” across the UK.

Previously Minogue managed the feat in 2010 when her single “All The Lovers” peaked at number three. The latest hit makes Minogue, 55, one of four female musicians – Cher, Lulu, and Diana Ross – to reach the UK’s Top 10 in decades.

Talking about the success of the song, Minogue said it had “taken us all by surprise”. Earlier this week, the singer spoke with Zoe Ball on Radio 2 where she said: “We loved it as a team, but the way that it’s taken off is way beyond me”.

According to a BBC report, apart from the UK, the song has charted off across Ireland, Netherlands, Argentina, Chile, Germany, El Salvador, New Zealand, and Australia. The song inspired by Edith Piaf’s song of the same name, mimics the sound of a racing heart. According to Minogue, “It’s onomatopoeic”. The singer added, “People are hilarious. It’s become a noun, a verb, an adjective”.

Following the success of the song, The Sun reported, many fans are actively petitioning for Oxford Dictionary to add it in their next edition. When asked what it means, Minogue said: “It means whatever you want it to mean”.

“Padam Padam” is the second song to feature in the singer’s upcoming album Tension scheduled for release in September.
