Canada has postponed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with India amid strained relations between the two countries.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Canada’s trade mission to India, scheduled to be held in October, has been postponed.
Shanti Cosentino, a spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng, has also confirmed it.
“At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,” the spokesperson said, without detailing a reason.
However, earlier this month, Canada put a pause on trade pact talks with India. This comes days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India.
Addressing the media following his talks with Narendra Modi, Justin Trudeau said his country will always defend freedom of peaceful protest but at the same time asserted that it will always prevent violence and push back against hatred.
“Canada will always defend freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom of peaceful protest and it is extremely important to us,” he added.
“At the same time, we are always there to prevent violence and to push back against hatred. I think on the issue of the community, it is important to remember that the actions of the few do not represent the entire community or Canada,” Trudeau said.
Justin Trudeau’s remarks came after t he Modi regime had requested him to ban the Khalistan Referendum in Canada.
