The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the preliminary delimitation lists on Wednesday.
The ECP had set a schedule for the initial delimitation process on August 17, ten days after the census results were notified, with completion targeted for October 7. Preliminary proposals for delimitation and the associated report were to be published by October 9. However, on September 1, the ECP compressed the timeline for the delimitation exercise by 14 days, aiming to finalize the process by November 30, instead of the previously scheduled December 14.
This development lays the groundwork for the Election Commission’s decision to hold the polls in the last week of January, although a specific date for the elections has yet to be announced.
In a press release issued today, the ECP revealed that the report on preliminary delimitation, along with the corresponding lists (Form 5), has been made available to the public on the commission’s website. Maps illustrating the initial delimitation are also accessible on the website.
The ECP emphasized that the publication of the preliminary constituencies will span 30 days, from September 27 to October 26. During this period, voters of the respective constituencies have the opportunity to raise objections (representations) to the preliminary constituencies. These representations should be directed to the commission’s secretary and submitted to the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad.
