Florida man arrested for misusing 911, gets $8,000 fine
A 56-year-old man from Summerfield, Florida, found himself in police custody after repeatedly dialing 911 over a span of two days, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident unfolded on September 25 when deputies were dispatched to mediate a dispute between the man, James William Jubane, and his neighbor. Jubane, insisting on how the investigation should proceed, attempted to direct the deputies.
While law enforcement officers were still at the scene, Jubane started making unwarranted 911 calls. Deputies advised him that if he had concerns to discuss with a supervisor, he should use the sheriff’s non-emergency number instead.
However, approximately an hour after the deputies had departed the area, and persisting for the subsequent two days, Jubane reportedly continued to misuse the emergency 911 line for non-emergencies.
During one of these calls, Jubane defiantly stated to the emergency operator, “You want to charge me with abuse of 911? Go ahead!” On another call, he declared, “I’m going to keep calling 911 back! You can charge me as much as you want!”
Subsequently, Jubane was apprehended at his residence and transported to the Marion County Jail. He is currently being held on an $8,000 bond
