A fresh medical report said that the ex-premier had some residual anginal symptoms which would require frequent follow-up investigations in London and Pakistan.
Angina is chest pain or discomfort that is a common symptom of coronary heart disease
Party leaders have announced that Nawaz Sharif intends to obtain protective bail upon his return and will then surrender to the courts, following attendance at a reception held in his honor.
Lawyer Amjad Pervez presented a fresh medical report to the registrar of the Lahore High Court on Friday.
The report, signed by Professor Carlo Di Mario, a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, which are part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ National Health Service Foundation Trust, detailed Nawaz Sharif’s medical history and treatment in London.
Professor Di Mario explained that they initially pursued medical treatment to strengthen Nawaz’s antianginal therapy. However, due to persistent anginal symptoms and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, it was deemed unsafe for Nawaz to return to Pakistan.
In November 2022, when Nawaz’s symptoms worsened, he underwent another angioplasty targeting an occluded left circumflex artery. The procedure involved rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and the deployment of multiple stents guided by Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS).
Professor Di Mario noted that Nawaz Sharif continues to experience residual anginal symptoms due to diffuse distal coronary disease, compounded by diabetes and multiple other comorbidities, necessitating ongoing medical monitoring both in London and Pakistan.”
