Nawaz Sharif’s legal team submitted two distinct petitions to the Islamabad High Court, seeking protective bail for their client in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases, just three days before his planned return. The petitions mentioned that Nawaz was scheduled to arrive at Islamabad airport on October 21 and intended to proceed directly to the court upon his arrival.

The court was therefore urged to grant protective bail. Following the submission, the court assigned reference numbers to the petitions, and no objections were raised by the registrar.

Nawaz Sharif had previously been convicted in both the Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases.

In the Al-Azizia case, he received a 10-year prison sentence and an £8 million fine, while in the Avenfield case, he was sentenced to seven years in prison and disqualified from holding public office for a decade.

In June 2021, a two-member Islamabad High Court bench, consisting of Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, had dismissed Nawaz Sharif’s appeals due to his extended stay in London.
