A 35-year-old man from Tirupati suffered a heart attack and died after India’s defeat to Australia in the final of the cricket World Cup on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Jyotish Kumar Yadav, worked as a software engineer in Bengaluru.
He had come home for Diwali holidays and was watching the cricket match on TV at home with his family and friends.
Soon after the match got over, he complained of chest pain and collapsed. He was immediately rushed to Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia government general hospital in Tirupati where doctors declared him brought dead.
His friends said Jyotish had become a bit tense and anxious when India were all out for 240 after batting first. Later, when the Australian team lost three quick wickets, he swayed with joy. But after that, as Australia kept getting closer to the modest target and won, he suddenly complained of chest pain and collapsed.
Tirupati Urban Development Authority (Tuda) chairman Mohith Reddy visited Jyotish’s residence at Durgasamudram village on Monday and offered his condolences. He also offered all possible support to the family on behalf of the state government.
