As the 28th of December dawned, the scions of the Akbar family anticipated a routine scrutiny of their nomination papers, submitted with ease on the 21st of December, 2023. Little did they know that this seemingly simple process would pave the way for a tumultuous turn of events.
Confident and calm, the family members believed themselves immune to the impending storm. They perceived their clean slate and reputable standing as shields, protecting them from harm. However, fate had a different plan.

Fast forward to the pivotal day, December 31, 2023 – the day when Imran Masood, Mian Haroon Masood, and Hashim Masood, along with their respective proposers and seconders, embarked on a motorcade to the designated school where the Returning Officer (RO) sat.
The atmosphere shifted dramatically as they approached the center. Bewilderment struck when policemen, strategically positioned by the gate, surrounded them. Awkward and strange, these enigmatic figures bombarded the contenders with a flurry of questions, creating an atmosphere of shock and uncertainty.
Imran Masood, accompanied by Mian Zorain Masood, Abdullah Karamat, and Hamid Warraich, attempted to make their way into the center. However, the situation took a dark turn when seven masked individuals, seemingly on a special mission, confronted Imran. Despite earlier cordial interactions with the RO, the contenders found themselves in the grip of an unexpected arrest.

Forced into a vigo truck, Imran, Zorain, Abdullah, and Hamid were swiftly taken away, leaving onlookers, including Hashim and an eyewitness, frozen in horror. The sudden and mysterious abduction unfolded before their eyes, and as they stood frenzied, the looming question remained: who orchestrated this shocking event, and what lies ahead for the Akbar family in the realm of democracy?
In the aftermath of a grueling ordeal, the three individuals have emerged from the harrowing rigors they endured. Trapped in a dilapidated dungeon with exposed floors during chilly winter days and nights, their plight becomes a nightmarish testament to the severe conditions faced. The absence of water and the presence of rudimentary toilets without doors exemplify a distressing reality, evoking profound empathy for those subjected to such conditions.

Witnessing individuals with weakened knees struggling to navigate Indian-style commodes unveils a spectacle that underscores the pressing need for humane reforms. The first and foremost requirement for those in captivity is access to a proper bathroom facility. Every person, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the fundamental right to a reasonably clean toilet, if not a pristine one—something as basic as a faucet with clean, flowing water should not be a luxury.
For those committed to spearheading jail reforms, it is imperative to incorporate these basic necessities into the framework. The drive for a more just and humane penal system must prioritize the provision of essential facilities, ensuring that the dignity of individuals in custody is preserved. It is incumbent upon society to acknowledge and address these deficiencies, pushing for reforms that elevate the standards of our detention centers and uphold the inherent rights of those within them.

After the forced rejection of nomination papers, the ordeal still continues on as the applicants are still being restrained from going further into the appeal. At best many contenders have sent their attorneys to collect evidence of their respective rejections, and this will be the basis for further appeals in the high court. The policemen are seen surrounding the area and the place represents more like a ghost town with eerie silence. They are trying to shun them away. So the prospect of having a recourse to the appellate courts is dim unfortunately.
