Alleged Sexual Assault at PGC: High Power Committee issues Preliminary Report | Baaghi TV

LAHORE: A high power committee formed by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a first year female student, in the Gulberg branch of the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC), has issued its report. 

The committee met with the victim and her parents at their residence to record the statements of thirty-six people involved in the case. As stated in the report, all factors have been reviewed in detail during a high-level meeting of the high power committee at the Civil Secretariat. DIG Operation Lahore Faisal Kamran, along with Director PGC Arif Chaudhry, College Principal Dr. Sadia Javed, APS Gulberg Shahrukh Khan and others are members in the committee.

According to the report, the female student and her parents clarified that she fell from the bed at her home on October 2, after which she was taken to the General Hospital. She then got a consultation with Dr. Sabir Hussain at the Brain and Spine Clinic in Cantt. on 3rd October. A day later, on October 4, she was admitted to a hospital in Model Town where she remained in the ICU due to the seriousness of her condition, and was discharged on October 11. 

The girl and her parents said that she was a regular leave from college between October 3 and October 15, during which time her name was linked to “false incidents” on social media.

The report stated, the girl denied any such incident of abuse adding that she wants to take legal action against the spread of misinformation. The girl and her parents have also requested the police to register a case under the Cybercrime Act against those who spread inaccurate information against them on social media. The family clarified strict legal action should be taken against elements involved in the incident. 

On the other hand, FIA has also established a seven-member committee of the Cyber Crime Cell to investigate the misinformation and those who spread it so that the real situation can be ascertained. This report has attempted to reflect the government’s determination to deliver justice and to comprehensively review all aspects of the incident.
