ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Judge, Justice Yahya Afridi appointed as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Supreme Court Judge Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan. 

Justice Yahya Afridi has been appointed for three years starting from 26th October, 2024. 

The appointment made by the President falls in line with Articles 175A (3), 177 and 179 of the Constitution. 

The appointment was finalized after a 12-member special parliamentary committee nominated Justice Afridi for the position, on Tuesday. Previously, Justice Yahya Afridi, has served as an Additional Judge in Peshawar High Court (PHC). He was confirmed as a permanent judge for the PHC in 2012 after which he assumed the position of Chief Justice of PHC in December, 2016.

Justice Yahya Afridi will be the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan, taking over after Justice Qazi Faez Esa.
