I am not a climate expert. I am a mother. I love my family. I love the children of this country. And I love this country beyond my own liking. So I’ve just shared whatever I know and I know it seems long and daunting but maybe it’s time to take charge of what goes inside our already malfunctioning post covid lungs.

1. USE OF VEHICLES/AUTOMOBILES/AIR TRAVEL

– Reduce usage of cars. Combine trips, do carpools and reduce the emissions.

– Maintenance of the exhaust of your vehicle. Keep it within safety limits. Believe it or not there’s an ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AGENCY of Pakistan and it has set National Limits (NEQS) if each person vows to keep all their exhausts within those limits it would be a game changer

– Restrict movement of Diesel engine vehicles in the city

– Use high quality fuel only. The shit quality of fuel also contributes to worse emissions from our cars

– Hand held devices for measurements of NEQS in the emissions can be given to traffic wardens. Each vehicle that is caught should be HEAVILY fined. And locked up for 24 hours.

– Subsidised sale of electric and smart fuel consumption vehicles in the country

– Efficient Public transport

– Promotion of walking / cycling / electric scooters for men and women.

– Aviation contributes to this also. Reduce the number of flights in these months. Use better fuel. Stop air force trainings in planes. I don’t know just find a way to REDUCE.

2. INDUSTRY EMISSIONS

– SHUT DOWN coal burning systems

-SHUT DOWN brick kilns

– IMPLEMENT EPA’s laws fully and wholly abs shut down factories that are not operating within NEQS and fine them heavily

– Promote concessions on taxes to those who become Iso 14001 (ENVIRONMENTAL MANEGMENT SYSTEM) certified to encourage them.

– Encourage Solar Energy generation to factories. Provide on subsidised rates. Give tax reductions to people who use solar power battery stored energy instead of Industrial Generators

3. GENERATORS

Repair and maintenance of Generators and usage of low Carbon Emission equipment to ensure that the smoke emitted is not destroying the environment. Every building has its own generator. Every shop. Every rich home. So we the elite class are literally contributing to 70 percent of the smog that is making OUR kids sick.

4. FOLIAGE BURNING

– Ban crop burning from Nov to Feb.

– Ban leaf burning in cities parks and homes all year round and forever.

– Encourage composting

– Encourage conversion of this waste into bio fuel. (Wheat corn and other left over stuff)

– Put up bio fuel generating plants. They emit carbon free white smoke when used as fuel.

5. GARBAGE BURNING

– DO NOT BURN GARBAGE in dumps, towns, cities and homes. I really don’t t even know HOW to emphasise more on it. Every one is doing it. It’s the easiest way to make it VANISH. Blood boils to even talk about this.

6. BUILD LESS

– LESS roads and high rises. Construction waste and digging also generates micro dust that accumulates to make smog worse. The first year of smog happened when the entire city was dug up for the Orange train. Restrain builders from building in these months. Truck traffic will also stop.

7. RECLAIM URBAN FORESTS

Wherever there’s space left in the city. Plant more trees. Just stop putting up boards and LCDS and add more trees for God’s sake. All this bullshit system of advertising on each and every road is horrifying. The LCD is not cool. It means electricity, it means a bad generator supplying that electricity. All contributing to more smog.

8. RECLAIM THE RAVI

The water cycle of the city is a mess. There’s heart waves and dryness. There’s no vaporisation to create scattered air showers. There’s no reservoir for monsoon rains. There’s no water bodies, clean lakes, or a flowing river. It’s all concrete all city. Surrounded by a dry driver. 😪

9. COLLABORTE WITH INDIA

-Sign climate treaty with Indian Punjab. They burn crops on the other side and the wind brings the smog to our end. I don’t think Diwali contributes to it much. But fireworks should be banned both sides. Khushi manani hai toe bhungray daalain. Bhajan gayen. Bhooko ko khana khilayen. Sari dunya ko aag lagana zeroori nahi!

10. ARTIFICIAL RAIN

– Invest in this technology. Scattered showers across 4 months of smog. I am not an expert so I will not comment.

WE the people are a bunch of complainers. Our hukmeraans are sleeping soundly with their doors and windows (eyes ears and hearts also) closed.

Our children will suffer. I don’t even want to point out the harmful effects of these emissions on their tiny hearts, lungs, eyes and skin. Autoimmune diseases, cancer? Is this what we want for our babies when they grow up. This is HELL. We live in HELL.

No matter how many masks we wear or purifiers we buy. The schools will shut down again. That’s the best solution na. Shut down schools. From Summer Autumn Winter Spring we now operate on COVID WAVE, DENGUE, HEAT WAVE, SMOG, COLD WAVE.

This is our reality. Someone said share a solution so I don’t know why I still felt like MAYBE someone will read this and magically my countrymen and their leaders will commit to fighting this menace.
