The Maha Kumbh has generated an estimated Rs 3 lakh crore of business, showcasing a remarkable convergence of faith and the economy. This event has emerged as one of India’s largest economic events, significantly bolstering local trade.

According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), trade has experienced tremendous growth, not only in Prayagraj but also within a 150-kilometre radius. The local economies of Ayodhya, Varanasi, and other religious places have also been strengthened. The Maha Kumbh is demonstrating the profound connection between faith and the economy.

According to CAIT, this time the Maha Kumbh has generated business of more than Rs 3 lakh crore (360 billion US dollars). It has become one of the biggest economic events in India.

CAIT General Secretary and MP Praveen Khandelwal said that this event reflects the deep connection between faith and the economy.

The Maha Kumbh, taking place in Prayagraj from 13 January to 26 February, is expected to generate significant economic activity. Khandelwal noted that initial estimates projected 40 crore devotees and Rs 2 lakh crore in business. However, given the exceptional nationwide enthusiasm, the total business is now anticipated to surpass Rs 3 lakh crore.

The Maha Kumbh, attracting 600 million devotees, spurred significant economic growth across numerous business sectors. Key beneficiaries included tourism, hotels, and accommodation services, alongside food and beverage industries. Transportation and logistics saw a surge in demand, as did businesses offering worship materials, religious clothing, and handicrafts. Healthcare, wellness services, media, and advertising also experienced heightened activity. Furthermore, the event stimulated the entertainment industry and drove demand for smart technology, CCTV-telecom, and AI-based services.

The Uttar Pradesh government has invested Rs 7,500 crore in infrastructure for the Maha Kumbh. To ensure the event’s success, the investment has funded the construction and improvement of roads, flyovers, and underpasses in Prayagraj.

Out of this amount, Rs 1,500 crore was specifically allocated for the Maha Kumbh arrangements. This has led to improved traffic and civic amenities not only in Prayagraj but also in the surrounding areas.
