Legal experts have taken a strong exception to the recent rhetoric made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Azad Jammu and Kashmir, calling it legally baseless and a distortion of historical fact and ground realities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rajnath Singh in an interview on Mar 08, 2025 a had claimed that the Kashmir dispute would end when AJK would join India.
The experts strongly rejected the claim by arguing that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory, with its final status to be determined through a plebiscite as envisoned by UN Security Council resolutions.
The rhetoric was also criticized by Pakistan, which called it an attempt to divert attention from grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to fuel hyper-nationalism for domestic political gains. Islamabad advised India to instead address its own internal conflicts, including unrest in Manipur and rising anti-Muslim sentiment across the country.
