Outraged by the police crackdown on farmers, a coalition of over 40 Indian farmers’ unions under the banner of Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha is holding protests across India today.

The call for protests was given following the police action against farmers at Shambhu and Khanauri on the Punjab-Haryana border.

Farmer leaders have also announced a wheel jam (chakka jam) strike across Indian Punjab to register their protest against the arrest of farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Sarwan Singh Pandher and others.

Such announcements have been made at village level and farmers told to block the nearest roads. Several farmer leaders were put on house arrest in order to prevent them from lodging a protest.
