Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse fields including trade, investment and commerce.
The understanding was reached during meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran today.
Addressing a joint news conference after the meeting, the Prime Minister and Iranian President said they have also agreed to transform their deep rooted ties into a proactive cooperation in different sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s sincere and serious desire for peace, however he categorically stated that if India chooses to be the aggressor then Pakistan holds the right to defence. He said Pakistan always has and will continue to work for peace in the region. He emphasized resolving all outstanding issues with India including Jammu and Kashmir dispute through talks and in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is ready to talk with India on water issue and for promotion of trade and counter terrorism efforts. The Prime Minister thanked the Iranian President for his concern over the situation in the region amidst Indian aggression. He thanked the Iranian President for his brotherly feelings for the people of Pakistan during the time.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stood out victorious in the crisis due to the brave efforts of its armed forces.
Speaking about the situation in Middle East, the Prime Minister said Pakistan condemns Israeli atrocities in Gaza. He said it is high time that international community use its influence to bring cease fire in Gaza.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan supports Iran’s right to have peaceful nuclear program.
On his part, the Iranian President said Iran welcomes the ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India. He said dialogue is the only way to peaceful settlement of disputes.
He said Pakistan and Iran should accelerate bilateral cooperation for making their border area free from terrorists and criminal groups.
Attaining sustainable security in the region and building friendly relations with neighbors is our common priority. He said Iran and Pakistan, being active members of OIC support the cause of Palestine and condemn the continued Israeli atrocities in Gaza.
