India: Weeks after issuing a letter of intent to Starlink, the government is all set to give the company a go ahead to start satellite services in India. The government has cleared its application for a global mobile personal communication by satellite (GMPCS) licence.
“Starlink’s officials are expected in the national capital over the coming days to sign the papers for the GMPCS licence. The company is in sync with the new licence conditions and various guidelines that are required to begin services in the country.”
The issuance of the licence also means that Starlink will receive approval on security aspects by the ministry of home affairs, thus clearing one of the biggest hurdles.
Last month, Starlink had received a letter from the DOT to offer its services in India.
Earlier, the Washington Post had cited State Department Cables to report that United States has pushed some nations which are facing the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump to approve Starlink owned by billionaire Elon Musk, a close aide of Trump.
