BANGKOK – 6 August 2025: A massive 5-metre-long python was discovered inside a home in Thailand’s Bang Yai district on Tuesday morning, sparking panic as the snake entered a room housing 10 valuable Scottish Fold cats. Fortunately, all the cats were reported safe and unharmed.
The incident occurred at a two-storey residence in Tambon Bang Mae Nang, which is currently undergoing renovation. The python was found coiled on top of a cabinet in a room specifically designated for housing the cats.
According to the homeowner, domestic staff were the first to discover the snake at around 7:00 am. Emergency services were immediately contacted upon the discovery.

Snake Entered Through Ceiling Gap
Authorities believe the python likely slithered into the house overnight through a gap in the ceiling at the rear of the cat room. The room housed 10 Scottish Fold cats, including two males, five females, and three kittens.
The python is believed to have originated from an adjacent overgrown and vacant plot of land, which has become a potential breeding ground for snakes and other wildlife.
Emergency Services Respond Swiftly
The rescue team, led by Wiroj Boonthai (52) and Buppha Amphuang (53) from the 191 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre in Nonthaburi, responded to the call around 9:00 am.
Speaking to local media, Ms Buppha stated that she received the alert earlier, but chose to wait for her male colleague to accompany her after judging the snake’s size to be too large to handle alone.
The cats, she confirmed, had managed to escape the room on their own and were all accounted for and safe.

Python Safely Captured and Relocated
Using a snake-catching pole fitted with a specialized loop, the team safely secured the python by its head and carefully removed it from the premises. The snake was then placed into a secure bag and later released into a suitable natural habitat, far from any residential areas.
Rare Cat Breed Kept in Room
The room targeted by the snake was home to a number of Scottish Fold cats, a distinctive and highly sought-after breed known for their unique ear shape, which folds forward due to a genetic cartilage mutation. These cats are popular worldwide for their appearance and calm temperament.
