WASHINGTON – August 9, 2025: In a landmark diplomatic development, Azerbaijan and Armenia have signed a full ceasefire agreement at the White House, with US President Donald Trump playing a central role in brokering the deal. The leaders of both countries expressed their gratitude to President Trump and endorsed his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The agreement, signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, puts an end to years of hostilities over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. The accord was witnessed and endorsed by President Trump, who had hosted the two leaders for the high stakes meeting in Washington.

“This could have easily escalated into a major war,” President Trump said at the signing ceremony. “But I encouraged both nations to choose economic cooperation over conflict. Trade, tourism, and technology are the future—not war.”

The peace framework includes commitments to mutual recognition of sovereignty, regional security cooperation, and the initiation of bilateral trade and investment partnerships. The United States is also expected to support future tech-based agreements, including ventures in artificial intelligence and digital innovation, with both nations.

President Aliyev welcomed the agreement as a “new chapter for the region,” and highlighted plans for a strategic partnership with the United States. Prime Minister Pashinyan praised Trump’s leadership, saying his efforts “have not only changed the course of our regional politics but contributed to global peace.”

Both leaders jointly called for President Trump’s name to be submitted for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in preventing further conflict and encouraging diplomatic engagement. Their endorsement follows similar nominations from other countries.

In recent months, Pakistan had also supported Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination for his role in de-escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, while Israel and Cambodia have similarly praised Trump’s peace initiatives in their respective regions.

The agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is being seen as a rare and significant breakthrough in international diplomacy, with several analysts calling it a win for conflict resolution through dialogue and economic collaboration.
