Islamabad – August 14, 2025: A prominent business leader from Gilgit-Baltistan has sounded the alarm over what he terms a “complete administrative collapse” in the region, urging Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate action before the crisis spirals further out of control.
In a detailed and strongly worded letter, Sabbah Uddin — President and Group Chief Executive of Polaris Group Pakistan, and Director & Country Advisor to the Belt & Road International Medical Cooperation Center — has warned that Gilgit-Baltistan is facing a multifaceted breakdown in governance. He has held federal representatives, including the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police, directly responsible for the administrative paralysis that is now threatening national security, public stability, and Pakistan’s strategic commitments under CPEC.

The letter, dated August 14, paints a grim picture of escalating unrest across the region. According to Sabbah Uddin, dozens of police personnel have abandoned their posts in protest over unpaid allowances, leaving sensitive installations — including those guarding Chinese nationals and CPEC projects — exposed. He warns that the protest is no longer symbolic and could turn into an armed mutiny, as the officers still possess state-issued weapons.
The letter also highlights the failure of authorities to respond to widespread flood damage across areas such as Danyor and Sultanabad, where critical water channels remain destroyed and volunteers have died during attempted repairs. Meanwhile, repeated trader blockades at the Sost Dry Port — the gateway to China — have stalled economic activity and threatened Pakistan’s credibility with Chinese partners.

Adding to the crisis, lawyers in Gilgit are boycotting court proceedings over alleged administrative and judicial neglect, leaving citizens without legal recourse and further eroding public trust in institutions. Chronic power outages across the region have further intensified public frustration, as government promises to resolve the crisis remain unmet.
Calling the situation one of “state endangerment,” Sabbah Uddin has stressed the strategic significance of Gilgit-Baltistan, which borders China, India, and Afghanistan and serves as the backbone of the CPEC northern corridor. He has warned that continued inaction would not only fuel local unrest but would also risk Pakistan’s national and international standing.

In his appeal to the Prime Minister, Sabbah Uddin has called for the immediate dismissal of senior federal officials in the region, redeployment of federal security forces to safeguard CPEC and other sensitive sites, and direct Prime Ministerial oversight of Gilgit-Baltistan through the Ministry of Interior. He described the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan as having “a record of failure” and incapable of resolving the crisis.
Signing off as “an indigenous son of Gilgit-Baltistan — the nation’s northern sentinel,” Sabbah Uddin warned that the region is at a flashpoint and that restoring public confidence and institutional effectiveness will require urgent and decisive federal intervention.
