India: Senior diplomat Dinesh K Patnaik, presently Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain has been appointed as India’s Next High Commissioner to Canada, nearly nine months after New Delhi withdrew its High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and other senior diplomats stationed in Canada amid diplomatic tensions. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced the appointment of Patnaik.

As per media reports, the process of appointment of High Commissioners between the two countries began following the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Alberta in June this year.
