International Literacy Day is being observed on Monday.

This year, the day is being celebrated under the theme of “Promoting literacy in the digital era.”

In his message on the occasion of International Literacy Day, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed the commitment to advancing universal literacy through stronger public policies, investment in quality education, digital innovations, and community engagement.

He said we must pay special attention to empowering women and girls through education.

The President said by ensuring literacy and education for women, we invest in healthier families, stronger economies, and a more equitable society.

He said by strengthening non-formal education alongside the formal system, Pakistan is ensuring that every child, youth, and adult has the opportunity to learn, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic background.

The President said together, we can build a society that upholds human dignity, empowers women, and harnesses the full potential of our citizens for peace, prosperity, and progress.

In his message, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the federal and provincial governments are united in promoting education and increasing literacy rate in the country.

he said the main objective of the national literacy campaign is that every child should not only receive basic education but also become familiar with higher education, skills, and technical knowledge.

He said that education is a journey toward a brighter future that strengthens the foundations of a nation both individually and collectively.

Shehbaz Sharif urged teachers, parents, and every citizen to fulfill their crucial roles in eradicating illiteracy to lay the foundation for a strong, talented, and developed Pakistan.
