India has repatriated 67 Pakistani prisoners on humanitarian grounds from Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post in Amritsar, today. They were handed over to Pakistan Rangers by Indian officials. These include 53 fisherman and 14 civil prisoners.

Officials from Pakistani high commission were present to facilitate the process. The Govt.of Pakistan will continue to actively pursue release of all Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails.

Attari Protocol Officer, Arun Mahal said that among the released prisoners 21 were lodged in Gujarat jail, 39 in Porbandar, and others were in Rajasthan, Hyderabad, Ludhiana and Amritsar jails. They were released after the completion of their jail term.

This is the first such repatriation of Pakistan prisoners after May Indo-Pak war.
