India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, were not awarded the trophy on Sunday after their refusal to take the silverware from Naqvi. According to some reports, Naqvi allegedly took the trophy to his hotel room and “seized” it.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed outrage at this unprecedented act and is reportedly considering lodging a theft complaint with the Dubai police.

More than 72 hours have passed since India’s victory, yet Naqvi has neither handed the trophy over to the Indian team nor returned it to the ACC office. The issue was vociferously addressed during the ACC meeting on Tuesday, with representatives from several countries voicing their protests. Despite the uproar, latest reports indicate that Naqvi remained defiant, keeping the trophy in his hotel room.

In response, the BCCI has reportedly decided to take stringent action, planning to file a formal complaint against Naqvi with Dubai Police for theft and unlawful possession of the trophy. News18 Hindi quoted sources as indicating that the BCCI has given Naqvi a 72-hour ultimatum to return the trophy to the ACC office; failing which, an official case will be registered. If the case proceeds, Naqvi will likely face arrest.

According to reports, the BCCI is also in constant dialogue with UAE authorities to prevent Naqvi from returning to Pakistan with the trophy.
